Synopsis

"A New Era Is Upon Us. Grow Mentally by Developing Tolerance."

Like publications produced by DSI Sales in the 1960s, this vintage gay magazine dared to feature full-frontal nudity. And like its parents Grecian Guild and Physique Pictorial, its creators felt compelled to justify such photos by appealing to the New Thought religious view that the body was holy as it was created by God and therefore shame about it was unhealthy and self-hating and perhaps even impious:

"BRONCO hopes to do its part to bring about a world wherein man will, from the moment of birth, accept himself, not with guilt and shame; but with esteem and serenity in his totality as God made him.

"BRONCO hopes to do its part to bring about a world wherein man will, from the moment of birth, accept himself, not with guilt and shame; but with esteem and serenity in his totality as God made him."

The publication is mostly b/w photos of younger guys, the cocks visible but not hard or prominent, accompanied by two articles.

One is called "A New Era Is Upon Us." The article lauds the free market and healthy competition, decrying too much government interference in economic and social initiatives. Rather shocking in hindsight, as many conservatives (and anti-gay ones) tend to jump on this bandwagon these days! Why is the author polemicize "group-oriented, collectivist socialism or communism" and keep "harping" on how Russia is such a threat and how the "socialism" of the 30s and 40s was detrimental to progress? Is it just a Cold War type of mentality?

The author seems to think that the youthful rebellion of the 1960s which emphasizes individualism, the "beat," is a healthy development as it will eventually replace the "organization" man ideal of the previous decades. Or perhaps, given the quite obvious audience and purpose of this publication, imply that the heterosexual norm will be replaced by a tolerance for different sexual orientations.

Again, as I mentioned above, this article can serve as a kind of a shocking mental reversal if one is aware of the ideological frontlines these days!

The other article, entitled "Grow Mentally by Developing Tolerance," calls for social and religious diversity and for looking objectively at reality. Avoid dictatorial dogmatism! One wonders if the picture of the hot clean-cut guy (note the big hairy basket and glimpse of the low-hanging balls) with his hands tied up (very risque for the period) by a rope placed at the page before the beginning of this piece is a some kind of visual comment on the article's claims about calling for an end to intolerance.
