The famous physique photographer presents glorious beefcake in this early to mid 1960s vintage gay physique magazine.

There is no attempt to "code"this publication as a bodybuilding guide or an "inspiration" for artists or photographers.

Bob Anthony presents photos youthful, virile beauties, and some of their poses are most definitely homoerotic in nature and appealed to a homosexual audience, even if many of the models were heterosexual. For example, Linc Ramon poses partially under water, a virile, dark-haired "twink,"obviously nude though of course his on his stomach (but then, one gets a shot of his tight ass). He also appears reclining (a towel deftly draped across his crotch, and if one looks closely, a hint of pubic hair?) beneath someone's legs, and also standing arrogantly, the head of someone else covering up his crotch. For this period, these are very risque images. See pages 36-37.

Rex Harrison (not the actor, ha!) is shown lifting weights and doing bench press exercises.. Not how he does it, but him doing it, a significant difference. The captions give a bit of information on each picture, including naming muscles like "lats,"showing that the audience is not experienced bodybuilding types, but men who admire his youthful beauty in this gym setting. And a conventional bodybuilding magazine would probably not show scenes like "Rex taking out his sneakers and gym uniform."Seems more like a photo spread for a movie star than a weightlifting demo!

Other homoerotic highlights include: Joe Amato, kind of a blue-collar Steve Reeves type, showing off the most perfect body in the universe and a thick bulge beneath his briefs; "Jim"poses nude (again, the genitalia deftly concealed) outdoors, pressing himself against a barn and showing off his "fuckable: ass; and on page 32, two wrestlers from Bob Mizer's Athletic Model Guild look like they may be doing more than wrestling, and it may involve a foot fetish scene.

And the coverboy, drop-dead handsome Lanny (?!) Gans epitomizes the all-American jock image. He likes horseback riding ... (use your imagination). And you can see him in color too in this special issue! Billy Mead rivals Gans in his confident youthful virility (see page 5 for a hot shot with attitude, and get a load of the funky swimming trunks).

Homoerotic artists Tom of Finland (a really hot one on page 22) and Camus contribute drawings; dorky looking Brain Melloy, a model from the studio of Scott, poses in leather shorts and cap.

On pages 40-43, most significantly, one gets a glimpse of what was essentially the gay porn of this era: scenes produced by Hussar (an English studio) playlets. One is called "Strip Jack Naked,"and ends with someone suspended, bare-assed, from ropes. "Why Y" looks like some kind of wrestling developing into a bondage/domination scene between three guys. The dominant pose/attitude is certainly present in the last three "panels."

Our copy in very good condition.
