Originally shot to be viewed in porn theaters and preview booths, these short pieces are much different than the better known cinematic product of the Seventies and the narrative driven fare of the contemporary video age. The only reason we know their titles (and the characters' names) is because Bijou Video catalogs all related material from films in their collection, including Brentwood's press material for Small Town Boy.

How has time affected these films? Well, they might be shot on film without sound (different soundtrack pieces play over each film), but they still function quite well as porn. Some folks might not want to watch four unrelated segments with no dialogue and others might be so used to video's ability to get really close to the action that the movies just don't register as hot. The rest of us may very well enjoy, and maybe even benefit from, what is now good old-fashioned pre-condom porn from the days when you had to go to a theater if you wanted to watch a dirty movie.

In the first piece, Small Town Boy, Dane (as the original material reveals) walks the streets of San Francisco in his business suit. He is very clean cut, with an "aw shucks, Beav" haircut and a strong jaw. He hits on a woman, gets turned down, and soon comes across a striking blond man. They traipse back to his hotel room and the blond immediately strips down and begins to jack off his cock. Dane pulls his flaccid but huge dick from his white briefs and feeds it to the blond. The blond manages to take the entire thing into his mouth and down his throat. Dane tries to stick the devil's lollipop up the blonde's butt. Alas, the ass is not as skilled as the mouth; the blond cannot accommodate Dane's girth. Instead he sits atop Dane and strokes his bone until he shoots a load.

Dane goes back out onto the streets to find someone to fuck. He meets a Bruce Jenner look-alike and takes him back to the hotel. They get naked, smoke a joint, and sixty-nine. Perhaps thanks to marijuana's ability to relax a person, Bruce Jenner sits right/down on Dane's cock and pumps up and down like he's taking the ride of his life. This time, both guys get to cum-in delicious slow motion no less.

The next segment is called The Customer is Always Right. Handsome Ted gets a variety of services from two very eager salesmen while shopping for an outfit. All three of the performers have big, floppy ball sacs, thick pubes, and slim bodies, but these are about the only highlights of this totally lackluster sequence. The fluid, probing camera work cannot even save this pedestrian menage·a-trois from mediocrity.

The third segment, entitled Shoot That Load, is a solo performance that's spiced up with mirrors and voyeurism. A beefy blond, called Dean in the Brentwood promo material, looks like James Dean and has a James Dean poster on his wall. He rubs his denim-clad crotch while smoking a cigarette. He stands up and admires his rippled torso in the wall-sized mirror adjacent to his bed. He slowly, teasingly, takes off his jeans. His already hard boner, framed by a halo of golden pubes, begs to be squeezed. Dean stands in front of the mirror and jacks off for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, a man sits outside the window in the darkness, a mere shadow really. The viewer becomes this figure as the camera watches Dean play with his ass, the wide shot catching both Dean's facial expressions and image of his puckering pig hole in the mirror.

Solar Energy wraps up the collection. Two ranch hands, one blonde and one brunette, get busy under the blinding light of the desert sun. The scene is quite beautiful, but it's best as a contrast to the darkness of Shoot That Load. This collection may be in interest to fans of John Travis, famed director of the Jeff Stryker classic Powertool. These are some of his early films.
